The Sunnyside Arms Gazette's Over Easy column is taken over today by our Southern-trained, hairspray and scissors toting, resident specialist of all things beauty, the one and only Tiffani with an "i"!

Hi Y’all! Tiffani with an "i" here!

This being our first post on the Facebook and all, I just want to start out by saying that all of the residents of Sunnyside Arms Retirement Community are safe and (relatively) healthy in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. Just like most of you, we are itching to get back to our regular activities as soon as possible. Personally, I am going a bit nuts worrying about what this is all going to mean for the big Easter Sunday event Agnes and I are planning for the residents.

Hamming It Up On Easter

We put Miss Betsy Ross in charge of games, entertainment, and decor. Yours truly planned the menu—cherry glazed ham for the meat eaters and toham (something our very own Martha Stewart, Miss Daphne, dreamt up) for the veggie folks. Agnes is overseeing the health and safety aspects of the event, which includes (apparently) making sure that we have several shelves full of Wet Naps and Lobster bibs. “Less mess equals more success,” as she is fond of saying.

What Is Up With All Of This Zooming?

Agnes is also making me, Betsy, and Ms. Daphne sit through these Zoom virtual meetings for forty minutes a day where all she talks about is setting up more meetings. I don’t get it. Harold has started popping in to these meetings too. I think Agnes just invited him out of boredom, cuz he can sure talk your darn ear off if you let him. I just put everybody on the mute and nod and smile once in a while until Agnes does her customary end-of-meeting-wave when I see that happening. Sometimes the listening is worthwhile though.

An Egg-cellent Idea I Am Dying To Try!

Easter egg colors to be duplicated as hair coloring for our Easter event.

At our last Zoom meeting, Betsy suggested that it would be a real mood lifter if the members of the Ladies Auxiliary dyed their hair all the colors commonly found on Easter eggs for the Easter Sunday event. She said, “it would be as pretty as a human Easter basket minus the bow on top.”

Well, that may be, but my shop has been closed (as it should be, in my opinion) due to the Coronavirus for several weeks now. So if we open in time for the Easter Sunday event, I am not sure just how I am going to get those six ladies to agree on who gets which hair color and then do all the dye jobs in time. Color deciding and doing can be dangerous around here. But, I do like a colorful challenge!

Coloring Hair Can Be Dangerous, Though Exciting, Too

Why, back in July, a resident nearly took out Nurse Susan’s eye with my coloring brush because she got the last of my blue dye. Still don’t know why red, white, and blue striped hair was such a big deal. Sure, it’s patriotic and all, but it is so limiting wardrobe-wise. I can only imagine what the ladies will do when we have pink, purple, yellow, orange, green, and blue hair coloring to contend with. Should be quite a show! You know, Betsy might be on to something. Thinking about those ladies looking like a bunch of food color dipped cotton balls sitting around in a circle at their next Auxiliary meeting does lift my mood.

Safety And Toilet Paper Are Key

That’s all I’ve got to say for now except that speaking for all of the staff and residents of Sunnyside Arms, I hope you are all safe, healthy and stocked up on good toilet paper!
